Enjoy a relaxed few hours out on Lake Mapourika, combining scenic lake cruising with the chance to try your hand at freshwater fishing. Set against a backdrop of pristine rainforest and the Southern Alps, this is an easy, enjoyable way to experience Franz Josef from the water.

Sit back and unwind as you cruise across calm, mirror-like waters, trolling quietly along the lake’s edge past ancient kahikatea forest. Keep an eye out for native birdlife, including white heron, while you cast a line or wait for a bite on the trolling lines. Otherwise simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings with friends and a drink in hand.

Our experienced local guides will take care of everything, with all fishing equipment provided and no experience needed. While brown trout and salmon are present in the lake, this experience is less about the catch and more about enjoying time on the water in a unique and scenic setting.

Fishing techniques include trolling and spinning, and you’re welcome to keep your catch if it’s legal and in season. Small group sizes and a relaxed pace make this a comfortable and social way to spend time on Lake Mapourika.
